It Pays to Be Poor

I've been reading up on the Kingdom lately, and one of the things I've discovered about it is found in these lovely little words:

Listen, my beloved {sisters}: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
{James 2:5}

So he has, and I think I'm living proof!  E and I are certainly not poor when compared to most of the world, yet we are definitely not rich by American standards.  And yet... we are happy.  For through our poverty, God has shown his great faithfulness to us by providing for our every need.

Thank You, Lord!  And thank you for these words that show me, once again, that entrance into your Kingdom is based entirely on your greatest commandment: to love.  In this verse, it is to love you.  In the context of this verse, it is to love other people, no matter their economic status.  Put this love for you in my heart, Father, that it may overflow into my love for people.

  1. Reminds me of Proverbs 22:2...

    "Rich and poor have this in common, the Lord is the maker of them all"

    That reminder from James is so good--ah! We ARE so rich in Christ!

  2. I love your spirit, Carrie! It's also so true, that you and E are not poor compared to more than half the world's population, but you may not be rich compared to others in the US. Yet you're relying on God. Keep on keeping on! :)
